Biography

Alfonso Adan

Alfonso Adan is a European jazz guitarist, composer, and recording artist. With more than 30 years of experience as a performer, his style is characterized by a carefully crafted compositional technique where he combines elements of classical and modern music, with a strong influence and knowledge of Afro-American music and European jazz.

His great curiosity about music led him to take lessons when he was six years old. A few years later, motivated by the eagerness he had to learn more about what he adored so much, he formally began to study guitar at the music conservatory.

From a very young age, Alfonso identified with the sound he could obtain from an electric guitar, and this led him to develop a professional career along with his studies of classical music at the conservatory. With classmates from his elementary school, he formed a rock band in which they only played original music. With this band, they worked on three recording projects and performed throughout the country for more than ten years.

After graduating from the Classical Music Conservatory in classical performance, he decided to deepen his knowledge in jazz. After having auditioned for the World Tour Scholarship offered by Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and awarded a scholarship, he studied jazz performance in this university, considered the best school of modern music in the world. After a few years during which he was working as a guitar teacher and performing with his jazz trio in different countries, he wanted to continue expanding his knowledge and studied for a Master's degree in jazz performance at New York University.

In addition to participating in musical projects with internationally renowned artists in Spain, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States, the great versatility, creativity and originality that Alfonso puts into each of his compositions, have led him to compose music for films, short films, radio and television ads, and highly successful theater plays.

Among the experts of the music field, Alfonso is considered one of the most promising talents due to his signature sound where he combines acoustic and electric instruments. He focuses on exploring new compositional and performing techniques, and doing what has not yet been done in music.

Currently, Alfonso is promoting his most recent recording material called NEW MORNING, an album recorded in quartet with Drew Gress on double bass, Sam Revaz on piano, and Paul Shaw on drums, in which Alfonso performs a total of twelve original compositions that are played within a modern and innovative jazz context. In this album, Alfonso develops a new style in a modal and polymodal compositional frame, in which he simultaneously uses double harmonies, creating different colors and expectations within the avant-garde jazz world. Alfonso regularly plays in jazz venues and clubs in Greenwich Village in New York City.
